DPS Identifies Elderly Woman Killed in Taylor County Crash; She Could Have Been There for Hours

BUFFALO GAP, TX -- The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified an elderly woman who was killed in a crash near Buffalo Gap on Tuesday.

DPS says Wynona Harris Hollister, 79, was southbound on FM 89 when she lost control of her Chevy passenger vehicle. The vehicle then struck a guardrail, rolled into a creek and came to rest in an upright position, according to the crash report. She was reportedly wearing her seat belt.

Hollister was pronounced dead at the scene.

KTXS learned of Hollister's identity because she is the grandmother of one of their employees. She was heading home from a doctor's appointment in Abilene and was around the corner from her home, KTXS reported.

"This crash hits close to home for the KTXS staff. Her grandson works for the station," KTXS said. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Hollister's family."

Their report says the crash was not discovered until 2:00 p.m. DPS believes the crash happened around 10:30 a.m.

The crash is still under investigation.
