Woman Killed in Single Vehicle Crash Near Sterling City

 

STERING CITY, TX -- A 23-year-old San Angelo woman died and a three-month-old child was injured in a single vehicle crash eight miles south of Sterling City early Friday morning. 

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Sgt. Justin Baker, Andrea S. Rico was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox southbound on U.S. 87 south of Sterling City when she drove into the median. 

Baker says Rico overcorrected crossing the southbound lanes and overturned. 

Rico was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by Sterling County Justice of the Peace Stacey Dyer. 

The three-month-old girl was secured in a child safety seat and was transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment of non incapacitating injuries.  

50-year-old Joel F. Bing, also of San Angelo, was a passenger in the Equinox.  He was not wearing a seatbelt.  

Bing was also transported to Shannon Medical Center with non incapacitating injuries. 

The crash occurred around 2:48 a.m. Friday and the road conditions were clear and dry. 

The DPS is still investigating the cause of the crash.
