Teen Driver Killed in Crash with 18-Wheeler

 

SNYDER, TX -- Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers are investigating a fatal crash Friday morning that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man north of Snyder. 

According to a press release from DPS Trooper Sgt. Fred Biddle, Tristan Michael Townes of Joshua, TX was driving his 2013 Toyota Prius northbound on U.S. 84 nine miles north of Snyder when the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder, over corrected to the left, slid across the roadway and median, and crashed into a southbound 18-wheeler in the southbound lanes of US-84.

Townes was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the 18-wheeler, 47-year-old Todd Cameron Lacy of Abilene, was treated and released from Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and the road conditions were clear and dry Friday. 

The crash is still under investigation.
