Two Escape Serious Injury in Plane Crash in Midland Parking Lot

MIDLAND, TX -- The pilot and passenger walked away from a plane crash in a parking lot in Midland Friday.

According to the Midland Reporter Telegram, the Cirrus SR22 had just taken off from the Midland Air Park when it experienced some type of engine or mechanical failure.

The Cirrus is designed with a whole airplane parachute.  According to Cirrus, the plane is equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS).

The parachute system is designed to protect occupants in the event of an emergency by lowering the aircraft to the ground after deployment.

Witnesses said the parachute was deployed and lowered the plane to the ground.

It landed on a pickup in the ClayDesta parking lot.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash.
