NOLAN, TX -- A 27-year-old man from New Mexico died in a head-on crash in Nolan County south of Sweetwater Thursday afternoon.
According to Sgt. Fred Biddle with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Gregory M. Chavez Jr. of Albuquerque, NM was driving his 2004 Toyota Camry south on SH 153.
He drove into the northbound lane attempting to pass another vehicle when he crashed head-on into a Ford F350 pickup towing a trailer driven by 63-year-old Jerry Pechacek of Sweetwater.
Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene. Pachacek was treated and released. Both men were wearing seatbelts and the weather was clear and dry.
Sgt. Biddle says the crash is still under investigation.
