Hundreds Evacuated While Inks Lake Wildfire 35% Contained

 

BUCHANAN DAM, TX -- A wildfire in Burnet County over the weekend forced hundred to evacuate from Inks Lake State Park.  Officials say the wildfire is 35 percent contained.  

According to KTXS,  officials say the wildfire started on private property near CR116 and then spread into the State Park. 

Sunday night the wildfire had burned approximately 500 acres and threatened dozens of homes.  

Officials say over 800 people were evacuated while firefighters battled the wildfire.  

Witnesses say aircraft were using water from the lake the battle the blaze.  

There are 17 different fire departments on scene as well as resources from Florida and Georgia. Four air tankers and two helicopters are assisting in aerial attacks, authorities say.

Firefighters continued to fight the fire Monday.
