Some Santa Rita Homes Evacuated for Gas Leak

SAN ANGELO, TX — The City of San Angelo Water Department accidentally ruptured a gas line in the middle of the Santa Rita neighborhood.

At the intersection of S. Park and Avenue J, traffic is being diverted while Atmos Energy workers are fixing the leak. The smell of gas is everywhere and a few nearby homes were evacuated.

The San Angelo Fire Department is standing by as Atmos crews are trenching both ways from the leak. Their plan is to seal both sides of the pipe, isolate the ruptured part of the pipe, then build a bypass. The work will continue for most of the afternoon, said Jimmy Little, Safety Specialist with Atmos.

Little said 15 or 16 customers are without gas while the gas main is being repaired.
