Two San Angeloans in Devastating San Marcos Apartment Fire

 

SAN MARCOS, TX -- A devastating fire at an apartment complex in San Marcos near the campus of Texas State University has left several students injured and others missing including at least one person from San Angelo. 

According to reports from San Marcos, New Braunfels and Kyle firefighters responded to a structure fire that injured six people Friday morning.

The incident started at approximately 5 a.m. at Iconic Village Apartments at 222 Ransay St. engulfing one building and moving to a second building.

Six victims had to be transported to the hospital. The city says one person suffered critical, life-threatening injuries and was transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for treatment.

Five others suffered non life-threatening injuries. Five people are still unaccounted for.

One of those unaccounted for is Haley Frizzell of San Angelo. Haley was attending Texas State University and was a 2017 graduate of San Angelo Central High School.

Their names are James Miranda, Haley Frizzell, Belinda Moats, David Ortiz, and Dru Estes. If you have any information on their whereabouts, you are asked to call 512-754-2291.

Zachary Sutterfield, also of San Angelo, was with Haley when the fire broke out. Zachary is in a San Antonio military hospital with extensive burns and a head injury. He is in critical condition. According to family friends, the 2017 Central High School graduate attended Angelo State University this year and was planning to transfer to Texas State University in San Marcos in the fall. He was close friends with Haley; the two were not dating.
