Two Killed in 18-Wheeler Head On Crash Near De Leon Friday

 

DE LEON, TX -- Two people were killed in a head on crash Saturday in Comanche County north of De Leon when a 2018 Ford SUV attempted to pass an 18-wheeler and crashed head on into another 18-wheeler.   

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Sgt. Fred Biddle,  78-year-old Judith Ann Cooper of De Leon was driving the Ford SUV following an 18-wheeler about 13 miles north of De Leon on SH-16 when she attempted to pass the 18-wheeler.  

The SUV was in the wrong lane and crashed head on into another 18-wheeler.  

Sgt. Biddle says Cooper and her 88-year-old passenger, William Otis Cooper were pronounced dead at the scene.  

Both 18-wheeler drivers were uninjured.  Everyone was wearing a seatbelt and the weather was clear and dry.  The crash occurred at 12:25 p.m. Friday.
