Plane Crash Claims the Lives of Midland High Football Player and His Father

 

MIDLAND, TX -- A Midland High School football player and his father were killed in the crash of a single engine private plane Thursday evening at the Midland International Airport.  

Newswest9 is reporting that 16-year-old Gavyn Cooper and his father John Cooper were taking off from the Midland Airport when the crash occurred at 7:20 p.m. .  According to the report, the Cirrus SR22 had just taken off from runway 16 and was exiting the pattern when it went down and crashed onto a fence starting a small fire.  

Gavyn Cooper had been a student at Trinity School prior to attending Midland High School.  

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
