Blown Tire Causes 18-Wheeler Fire in Merkel

MERKEL, TX — Early Friday morning, an 18-wheeler carrying diesel fuel caught fire in Merkel. 

According to KTXS, the truck was westbound on I-20 near Mile Marker 272 when it caught fire.

The fire started from a rear tire blow out. The tire came off, went into the median, and caused a small fire. 

Fire fighters arrived and put out the fire. Crews were clear of the scene in about an hour.
