Fuel Spill at Shell Station Closes Down Johnson Street

SAN ANGELO, TX — A fuel truck replenishing the fuel tanks at the Shell Station at Sherwood Way and Johnson St. experienced a mishap Thursday afternoon, causing a large spill of fuel, either diesel or gasoline.

The spill closed off the intersection of S. Johnson St. at Sherwood Way as crews from Regal Oil of San Angelo were cleaning the fuel that had run into the streets southward and into the neighborhood behind the gas station.

Eric Kind, an agent from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, was on hand to document the mishap. He said the amount of fuel spilled was anywhere between 25 and 200 gallons.

Regal crews accessed bags of absorbent from a pallet on a truck. Dan from Regal said they are cleaning the mess up as quickly as they can.

The intersection should be re-opened before dark Thursday.
