2 Die in 4-Vehicle Crash on I-20 In Sweetwater

SWEETWATER, TX -- Two people were killed Friday afternoon in a four-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler on I-20 in Sweetwater.

The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 20, Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden told KTXS.

He added that the Nissan Sentra was struck by an 18-wheeler as it crossed the median. Both female occupants in the Sentra were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident, "but appears the car may have hydroplaned and lost control," Madden stated.

The two other vehicles involved, "were believed to have been struck by the Nissan as it came back across the Interstate after being struck by the truck,” Madden said.

No other injuries were reported.
