Officer Gesch with the San Angelo Police Department said that the gray pickup was eastbound on 6th St. when it disregarded a red light. The truck then collided with a signal pole, drove through the pole entirely and then hit a nearby utility pole.
The damage to the utility pole "knocked out the power to several areas around town and [various] intersections," officer Gesch explained.
At this time it is unknown why the driver disregarded the red light.
"Nothing appears life threatening with his injures at this [time]," officer Gesch said. A witness told police that they saw the driver get out of the vehicle without any help. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.

According to Officer Gesch, the intersection of 6th and N. Chadbourne is expected to be closed for a month or two due to the damage underneath the utility pole. The other areas affected by the crash do have power again, Gesch added.

"As far as I know, everything seems operable again other than this intersection," officer Gesch stated, "with how much damage the utility pole [sustained ]it could be out for awhile."
Any citations from the crash will be determined pending further investigation.
