Back-to-Back Accidents Caused By Failure to Stop At Traffic Control Signals

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -- Shortly before noon today, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the crossing of Avenue N and Austin Street after a driver failed to stop at a red light. Shortly thereafter, another motor vehicle accident occurred at the crossing of Bell Street and Van Zandt, after a driver failed to yield right of way.

During the first accident, a white van was traveling westbound in the lane closest to the the center line when she failed to stop at a red light. A silver passenger car was traveling across Austin Street just as the white van began driving through the intersection. The two vehicles then collided.

No major injuries were reported. The male and female passengers of the silver vehicle were all treated on scene and both parties denied transportation to a local hospital.

The driver of the white van was cited for disregarding a red light, San Angelo Police Department Officer Bradshaw said. He added that the accident had two witnesses.

The second motor vehicle accident, which occurred shortly after first responders cleared the accident at Avenue N and Austin, happened at the crossing of Bell Street and Van Zandt.

According to Officer Bradshaw, a blue Honda Civic was traveling northbound in the lane closest to the outside lane, when a silver vehicle was waiting to turn left on Van Zandt. The driver of the silver vehicle decided to turn, but the driver did not see the Honda Civic approaching. The two then collided. No major injuries occurred during the second accident.

Both drivers received written warning. The driver of the silver vehicle received a warning for Failure to Yield Right of Way and the driver of the driver of the Honda received a citation for Driving while License Invalid.
