SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -- Shortly before 4 p.m. this afternoon, a man driving a four-door Honda sedan fell asleep at the wheel and hit a near by electricity pole in the 2500 block of Armstrong Street.
The man, who had borrowed the Honda from an acquaintance, "ran off the road, hit the [electricity] pole, and took the pole out," recounted Officer Schneider. From the impact, the Honda "spun around, came up on its left side, spun around on the left side" and then "miraculously, [the car] wound up falling back down on its wheels instead of rolling over on its top," added Schneider. The southbound lanes were shut down for a short time as police investigated and cleared the scene.
At the time of the accident, police had not heard of any power outages, but the accident popped two of three breakers attached to the electricity pole. Nearby residence's and businesses had no power outages.
AEP and Suddenlink will be out on Armstrong street in the coming hours to fix the electricity pole.
No major injuries were reported and no citations were given to the driver.
