ABILENE, TX — Yesterday, just south of Dyess Air Force Base in Taylor County, a couple in their 80s met a tragic fate at the hands of a 2014 Freightliner garbage truck.

According to the Texas DPS, Jeanelle Plowman, 81, was driving and her husband, Edwin Lee, 85, was the passenger. The couple were driving eastbound on CR 318 in their 2015 GMC pickup. At about the time the pickup was approaching, a garbage truck was backing out and into the roadway of CR 318 from a private drive. The Plowmans didn’t see the garbage truck in time. The GMC slammed into the right rear side of the garbage truck.
Killed in the crash was the husband and passenger, Edwin Lee Plowman, 85, of Abilene. He was pronounced dead at Abilene Regional Medical Center where his wife was being treated for injuries. DPS reported she is in stable condition.
The crash happened on CR 318 southwest of Abilene at 8:45 a.m. April 6. The skies were cloudy and the roadways dry, DPS reported.
