SAN ANGELO, TX - Currently, San Angelo Police and first responders are working a major crash on Sherwood Way, near Walmart.
Because of the number of vehicles involved, traffic is slow in the area. Please avoid that location if possible. We will provide an update when available.
Update @ 4:05 p.m.
Officer Brian Bylsma, with SAPD's Traffic Division, said he was dispatched to a major crash in the 5500 block of Sherwood Way involving three vehicles: a 1999 Mazda B2500 pickup, a 2008 Ford F-150 and a 2004 Ford Expedition. He added that four occupants were involved: two in the Mazda, and one in each of the Ford vehicles.
Bylsma said the Mazda was stopped in traffic waiting for a red light because traffic was backed up, and he got hit from behind. The driver of the Ford F-150 was slowing down behind the Mazda, looked in the rearview mirror, and saw the Expedition coming toward the pickup. The Expedition, once it hit the Ford pickup, caused that vehicle to crash into the Mazda.
"The driver of the Expedition was transported to a local hospital for unknown injuries," said Officer Bylsma. "The passenger in the Mazda was transported to Shannon for unknown injuries."
He added that the driver of the Expedition will be receiving a citation for failing to control speed.
