At this time, Tom Green County Sheriff David Jones just arrived on scene. Please avoid the area while first responders investigate and clear the area.
Once we have an update, we will provide more details.
Update @ 8:36 p.m.
DPS Trooper Henderson said, at approximately 7:40 p.m. on US 87, just south of Dilly Road, a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV was traveling northbound on the outside lane. At the same time, a 2016 silver Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on the inside lane.
"The driver, identified as Leticia Williams from Carlsbad, Texas, changed lanes, when unsafe, to the inside lane and struck the silver Nissan Altima," said Trooper Henderson. "As a result of that crash, the Nissan Altima spun around and came to rest in the northbound lane facing north. The white SUV continued off the north side of the roadway and came to rest facing northwest."
There were three occupants in the Outlander, and to Trooper Henderson's knowledge, the driver was the only occupant in the Nissan. All occupants in the SUV wore seat belts; however, it's unclear if the driver of the Nissan wore one.
Trooper Henderson did say he heard children were involved in the crash, but he has yet to confirm that information at the hospital.
"I do not know the ages or anything like that," Trooper Henderson said.
As for the driver, Ms. Williams will get a citation for making an unsafe lane change, Trooper Henderson said.
The trooper added that the speed limit in the area is 75 mph, and the road conditions were clear at the time of the crash.
