SAN ANGELO, TX - This afternoon at around 6 p.m., local law enforcement officers were dispatched to a single motor vehicle crash near the crossing of North U.S 67 and Thompson Road.
The white Hyundai sedan had one passenger who was pronounced dead at the scene.
US 67 has been deferred to one lane, so please expect some delays as law enforcement investigate the crash.
The Quail Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Tom Green County Sheriff's Department and local DPS state troopers are all on the scene.
This is an ongoing investigation and LIVE! will provide an update once more information is received.
UPDATE 8:40 p.m.
DPS State Trooper Robert Aldrete, who was dispatched to the scene, told LIVE!'s on-scene reporter that the vehicle in question was "cutting in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed, came up on another vehicle, overcorrected, lost control, rolled across the median into the west bound lanes [...] and all the way into the north far ditch," north of Rainey Road.
The white sedan was traveling eastbound toward Miles, Texas. The male driver, in his 60s, was a resident of the town. State Trooper Aldrete said the deceased had not been wearing his seat belt, and had therefore been ejected from the vehicle. The car spun out of control, traveling an estimated 150 yards.
Justice of the Peace Fred Buck arrived on the scene at 7 p.m., and pronounced the driver's death. His body was taken to Robert Massie Funeral Home.
LIVE! had previously reported that there had been another occupant in the vehicle who had been taken to the hospital, but this is not the case. State Trooper Aldrete confirmed that there was only one occupant in the vehicle. Entrapment was presumed in the early stages of the crash investigation by officials; however, this was also later found to be false.
On scene, law enforcement officers talked to about seven bystanders who had witnessed the crash.
The crash is still under investigation. There is a possibility that this might have been a case of reckless driving between two individuals.
