One Driver Dead After Taylor County Crash

TAYLOR COUNTY, TX - A 38-year-old Trent woman, Tammie Lynn Hill, died in a three vehicle crash on Interstate 20, 6 miles west of Merkel.

DPS officials said Gerald Mason Decker, 27, of Abilene, was traveling west on IH 20 in a 2012 Freightliner truck tractor towing a trailer yesterday morning when he lost control of his vehicle. Decker crossed the center median and crashed into a 2012 Toyota Camry driven by Leslie Sue Stalder, 48, of Sweetwater, and a 2012 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Hill.

Hill was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was taken to Abilene Professional Services. Stalder suffered incapacitating injuries and was transported to Hendrick Medical Center. As for Decker and a passenger in his vehicle, Sean Lee Collins, 27, of Houston, no injuries were listed on the report, said DPS.

Everyone did have seat belts on at the time of the crash. Trooper Louis Lopez II with DPS Abilene investigated the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
