Update July 20 at 11:10 a.m.

Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said officers responded to the unit block of East 12th Street around 8:45 p.m. last night for the report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, the first Officer on scene located an elderly man face down on the front porch of a residence. The man was unresponsive and bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound, and the front door of the residence was open. However, no one else was inside the residence.

"San Angelo Fire Department medics arrived and found no signs of life," said Gonzalez. "Justice of the Peace J.P. McGuire responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased and stated the cause of death was a gunshot wound."

The deceased was identified as 80-year-old John A. Fuentes. Through investigation, it was learned Fuentes had a history of medical issues. Fuentes’s next of kin has been notified.

Police did not locate any apparent signs of foul play and the Department is investigating the incident as a suicide.  A firearm was located at the scene.
