A 43-year-old Abilene woman died yesterday after a motorcycle carrying two passengers veered off the roadway and landed in a ditch off of FM 613.
According to DPS, a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle carrying driver Scott Lawrence Werner, 37, and Jlyn Robinson, 43, both of Abilene, was traveling north on FM 613, about 2.8 miles northeast of Buffalo Gap in Taylor County, at approximately 12:54 p.m. Werner failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the road, and, as a result, the motorcycle went off the road, fell on its left side and came to rest in the west ditch along with both Werner and Robinson.
DPS officials said neither Werner nor Robinson wore their helmets. Werner's injuries were not mentioned in the report, DPS said; however, Robinson was pronounced dead at Hendrick Medical Center. Her body was taken to North Funeral Home in Abilene.
At the time of the crash, weather conditions were reported as dry and windy, and the posted speed limit in the area is 55 mph.
Trooper Charles "Dee" Hoover II with DPS Abilene is the investigating officer for this crash, which remains under investigation.
DPS Correction: Sgt. Frederick Biddle with DPS said based on follow-up questioning, the driver was not wearing a helmet, but the deceased was.
