At least three vehicles, all of them pickup trucks, were involved in a major crash on U.S. 67 south between San Angelo and the turnoff to the Boy’s Ranch at FM 2335. The crash involved a driver under the influence.
The crash happened sometime after 1 p.m. this afternoon.
According to Texas DPS, the driver of a black Ford pickup was traveling westbound at highway speeds and did not react in time to avoid slamming into the back, right side of a white Chevy pickup, and then a red Dodge pickup.
The Chevy and the Dodge were stopped waiting to be led through the construction zone there with a follow-me truck. U.S. 67 is undergoing extensive construction along this stretch with flagmen directing traffic down to a single lane around heavy machinery working on the pavement there.
The driver of the Ford pickup was given a field sobriety test by DPS troopers, and shortly thereafter, handcuffed and taken into custody. Two others were rushed to the hospital with injuries, though DPS said none were incapacitated.

Traffic was completely stopped as Texas DPS, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, San Angelo EMS, and the Dove Creek Volunteer Fire Department worked the scene.
As of 2:35 p.m., traffic began to slowly flow; although, because of the construction zone, it remained down to one lane.
