The Memorial Day weekend ended badly for two families traveling west on the Houston Harte Expy. late Monday night.
A San Angelo police patrol unit rolled up on a crash just after it happened and called it in. Just past the Jefferson St. exit, closing both westbound lanes, two vehicles had collided.
A late model black Honda CRV rear-ended an older model GMC Sierra pickup at highway speeds, police said. The front of the CRV was demolished, and the bed of the pickup was bent inward from the force of the collision.

Citations are pending the outcome of the investigation.
