A domestic dispute between and man and woman sent two mothers and two children to the hospital following a four-vehicle crash on Loop 306 Tuesday morning.
According to San Angelo police, the male driving a gray Chevrolet pickup was chasing a female driving a blue Mitsubishi westbound on Loop 306. Near the Southwest underpass on the expressway, the Chevy driver pulled in front of the Mitsubishi and slammed on the brakes.
The woman slammed into the back of the Chevy truck, and then a late model GMC Denali SUV and a Buick SUV slammed into the back Mitsubishi in order. The driver of the Chevy pickup was not at the scene when we arrived, but police had located him.
Traffic investigator Ed Hunger is investigating all angles of this crash and stated as of 10 a.m., citations are pending the outcome of the investigation.
As of 10 a.m. Tuesday the westbound lanes (Green’s Grocery) side of Loop 306 were closed to thru traffic.
Update 4:14 p.m.
In an update this afternoon, Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said, at around 9 a.m. this morning, officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of W. Loop 306 for a three-vehicle car crash with injuries.
During the traffic investigation, officers learned the collision stemmed from a domestic dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend traveling in two separate vehicles and speaking to each other by cell phone.
"At some point during the verbal altercation, the male half, identified as 20-year-old Colton D. Beard driving a gray 2000 Chevrolet Pickup, made several unsafe lane changes before he pulled in front of his girlfriend’s vehicle and slammed on his brakes," said Gonzalez. "Beard’s abrupt braking action caused his 21-year-old girlfriend, who was driving a 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander, to apply her brakes in an attempt to avoid colliding with Beard’s truck. The woman was traveling with her and Beard’s 1-year-old son."
Although the truck and Outlander never collided, a white 2012 GMC Yukon Denali, occupied by a 37-year-old female driver and 23-month-old child passenger, rear-ended the Outlander. Also, a white 2011 Buick Enclave, occupied by a 38-year-old female driver and her 2-year-old son, rear-ended the Denali.
Gonzalez said all occupants sustained non-incapacitating injuries as a result of the chain-reaction collision and they were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Beard, who fled the initial scene, was located later and arrested for Reckless Driving and two outstanding City warrants. Beard was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident and released a short time later after posting a $500 Surety Bond.

The person that endangered the lives of all of the people in this accident according to the current information presented in this article pulled in front of a vehicle and caused this accident when he slammed on his brakes. In my biased opinion this quit being a traffic offense and escalated to a felony offense if this is factually correct.
I mean no offense to the writer of this story because this is a developing story and all of the facts are not in yet.
We can't have this person on the highways. We have enough bad drivers here. We don't need a person on our roads causing accidents and endangering everyone on purpose.

PermalinkThis person is not learning from his mistakes. He needs to be isolated from the rest of us. In other words he needs to be checked into the gray bar hotel to protect the rest of us from his bad decisions.

PermalinkJust tell him if he re-offends be it wreckless driving, wreckless endangerment, harassment or assault on family, that he will be executed. This isn't rocket science people. Why should someone go free to flaunt our laws and justice system and then nearly kill any of us who are innocent bystanders?
