A homeowner and a Toy Dachshund still have a home thanks to the fast actions of a neighbor and the San Angelo Fire Department.
At 2:24 p.m., SAFD firefighters were dispatched to the 1800 block of Shady Point Circle for a structure fire. Battalion Chief Ricky Long said the neighbor saw flames coming out of the garage roof and immediately called 911. Immediately, firefighters made their way out to the scene and conducted a “fast attack” to knock the fire down and keep it from spreading further.
“Engine 7 backed them up,” explained Long. “We laid a preliminary line from the hydrant here just in case we had more fire than we thought. It was contained in the attic above the garage.”

The fire is out, Long added, and firefighters are now waiting for investigators from the Fire Marshal’s office to come out to determine the fire’s start.
“Nobody was hurt. Nobody was home, and everyone is going to walk away from this one with a smile on their face,” said Long.
Originally, when the fire started, the owner was away from the home. She notified dispatch she had a Toy Dachshund inside the home. When firefighters arrived, they immediately searched for the dog and got it outside with no issue.
