Two people went to the hospital this afternoon after a collision in the 2100 block of Martin Luther King. The collision may have been the result of a driver’s side effects after donating plasma.
At approximately 4 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the area. Officer Cade said, based on witness statements and damage at the scene, the female driver of a silver Chevrolet Cobalt was facing west on West 22nd St. She may have failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign, which caused her to make a wide right turn. She ended up in the opposite lane of traffic, causing a collision with the driver of a red Dodge Durango.
“The driver of the silver passenger car just gave plasma, so [there’s a] possibility the accident came from her maybe either losing consciousness for a second and feeling light headed, or losing faculty with her hands,” explained Officer Cade.
Officer Cade said both the driver and the passenger of the Durango were injured and transported to a local hospital. The driver hit her chest on the steering wheel, while the passenger suffered back injury.
“From what [the driver] tells us, she has diabetes so they took her to examine her and make sure she’s okay,” said Cade. “Everything is minor at this point.”
The driver of the Chevy will receive a citation for failing to yield the right of way and causing a collision.
