This is a breaking story. We will provide an official update once received.

Update 4:35 p.m.

Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said, at about 3:27 p.m., dispatch received a call for a major cash in the 5300 block of Foster Road, right at 350 feet north of River Valley Lane.

"Initial reports are that it was a two-vehicle crash involving a city vehicle and a small passenger car," said Gonzalez. "When officers got on scene, they located the crash site, and the passenger and the driver of the first vehicle--the passenger car--were immediately transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment."

Gonzalez said the driver of the passenger vehicle is believed to have non-incapacitating injuries, but the passenger is said to have incapacitating injuries. Additionally, the city driver is believed to have non-incapacitating injuries, and Gonzalez said she believes he was transported to Community Medical Center; however, she has not received final confirmation.

A 2002 Chevy two-door Z28 and a City stormwater vehicle were involved in this incident. Gonzalez said the City driver is around 30 years old, but she has to confirm his date of birth. The passenger of the Z28, a male juvenile, is approximately 16 years of age, and the female driver is 18 years old. Based on the investigation thus far, Gonzalez said it appears the Z28 was traveling northbound on Foster Road at a high rate of speed, and the City driver appears to have traveled southbound on Foster, not at a high rate of speed that investigators could tell. However, this is based on preliminary information, she said.

"At some point, the white vehicle lost control, probably due to the speed, and went into what we call a broad slide," explained Gonzalez. "In that broad slide, it's believed from the marks, and from the damage, that the driver of the City vehicle attempted to not collide with the vehicle. In the attempt to avoid the collision, there was just no time, and the truck ended up colliding with the passenger door of the car."

Gonzalez said witnesses have also confirmed this information. She added this is what investigators have thus far, and SAPD will provide a press release with more information later tonight and/or tomorrow.
