A woman suffered incapacitating injuries late this afternoon after the driver of a Ford F-150 collided with her as she crossed the street in the 2700 block of South Johnson Street, said Officer Brian Bylsma with the San Angelo Police Department’s Traffic Division.
Officer Bylsma said he was dispatched to a major motor vehicle accident in the area after 4 p.m. Upon arrival, he learned from witnesses that the driver of an F-150 had pulled out of a private drive and was attempting to go southbound on Johnson.
“When he did that, he disregarded the red light and there was somebody in the crosswalk,” Bylsma said. “He did not see [that person] until the last second, and ended up colliding with the pedestrian trying to cross the street.”
At this time, Bylsma said he does not have any information on the pedestrian. She was transported to Shannon Medical Center.
“What it appears right now is she’s got incapacitating injuries that resulted from the accident,” he said.
Bylsma added that the driver was issued a citation for disregarding a red light. The driver did have two juvenile passengers in the vehicle who were not hurt in the crash.
