84-Year-Old Woman Dies in Callahan County Crash

An 84-year-old woman involved in a one-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Callahan County died after losing control of her vehicle, said the Department of Public Safety.

According to the report, Bessie Sanders Tharp of Abilene was traveling west on SH 36 at about 3:26 p.m., just 15 miles southeast of Baird, in a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer, when she drifted out of the westbound lane. As a result, Tharp overcorrected to the right, causing the vehicle to spin off of the roadway. The vehicle then rolled and Tharp was ejected. The vehicle came to rest on its top and facing south off the roadway.

DPS stated Tharp was pronounced dead at the scene, and next of kin was notified.

This crash is still under investigation.
