San Angelo Police Urge Citizens to Use Caution or Stay Off Roads

The San Angelo Police Department is urging San Angelo citizens to use caution if they must drive today. Road conditions are beginning to deteriorate from sleet and hail, and roads are expected to get worse throughout the rest of the day and night, said Sgt. Update 12:57 p.m.

DPS reported the following:

"After the first wave of the winter storm passed, most of the Lubbock and surrounding counties were left with icy roadways and high snow drifts.  We have approximately six stranded motorist in Hockley County.  Officials are in the process of trying to reach them and give assistance.   DPS discourages any travel due to hazardous road conditions.  Anyone who becomes stranded could have a long wait as first responders are having difficulty traveling highways due to the blowing snow and snow drifts.  Weather reports indicate that we will have another snow storm move through later today making roadway conditions even worse."

Hockley County's major city is Levelland, and is situated due west of Lubbock:

Update 1:13 p.m.

SAPD is now urging citizens to avoid Loop 306. It's iced over, and should be avoided. If drivers must use the Loop, use caution. However, it's best to find another route for safety.
