At approximately 11:37 p.m., SAPD was dispatched to the intersection of North Campus and Guadalupe St. for a hit-and-run accident, said Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department.
Solsbery said the vehicle, a red 2010 Chrysler Sebring, was traveling east in the 2600 block of San Antonio and about to make a left turn on San Antonio and Campus when it lost control and collided with the fence behind Lee Middle School.
Solsbery stated initially officials from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission noticed an assault taking place at Buffalo Wild Wings. When they tried to confront the suspect, later identified as Juan Fernandez, 26, of San Angelo, he “took off” in his Chrysler with the assault victim.
“They pursued him for a little bit and lost sight of him,” Solsbery stated. However, TABC found the car at the crash site.
“The driver fled on foot, but the 21-year-old female victim in the vehicle identified him,” Solsbery confirmed.
At this time, Solsbery stated it appears TABC officials have not located the suspect.
Chris Porter, public information officer for TABC, said at this time the agency has no information to provide on this case.
“TABC is cooperating with the San Angelo Police Department on this pending investigation,” Porter stated. “Because the case remains open, we’re deferring to SAPD for any comments in the incident.”
With that being said, the investigation is pending and no other information is available.
