San Angelo Man Killed After Hitting a Deer While Driving Down FM 388

A 77-year-old San Angelo man was killed after hitting a deer with his Toyota Prius.

According to the Texas DPS, Charles Frederick Miller was driving eastbound on FM 388 approximately six miles east of San Angelo when a deer ran in front of his vehicle and he hit it. He pulled his 2014 Toyota Prius over to the side of the road to inspect the damage, but parked part way in the shoulder and the eastbound roadway.

A 16-year-old male driver came up behind Miller, while Miller was outside his vehicle on the side of the roadway. The teen driver didn’t see the Prius in time. The teen crashed into the rear of Miller’s Prius, and Miller was killed.

The teen’s 1994 Chevrolet pickup hit the Prius so hard that it rolled over and the teen had to be extracted.

The teen driver was transported to Shannon Medical Center via ambulance with incapacitating injuries. Tom Green County Justice of the Peace Judge Eddie Howard pronounced Miller dead at the scene of the crash.

The weather was clear and the roadway dry, DPS reported. The crash happened on Nov. 1 in the dark early morning hours, at 12:45 a.m.

Rest in peace Mr. Miller. Prayers to everyone involved and their families. I've known Mr. Miller for the past 7 years. This is very tradgic to read. He had a lot left to give at 77 years old... a life lost to soon.
