A Dodge Pickup Slams Into Two Pedestrians in North San Angelo

At approximately 8 p.m. this Saturday evening, a driver of a black Dodge pickup driving southbound on North Chadbourne St., in the far right lane, struck a couple crossing the street directly in front of Western Sky Steakhouse, 2024 N. Chadbourne St., said Sgt. Ali Shah with the San Angelo Police Department.

Sgt. Shah said the area where the couple crossed is very dark, so it's sometimes hard for drivers to see. When the driver spotted the couple, he attempted to stop, but the wet roads and conditions didn't help. The driver was going the speed limit, and alcohol wasn't a factor in the crash.

Sgt. Shah also said the couple, who appeared to be in their mid-60s, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No citations will be issued because of the circumstances. The officer added that the couple should have been a little more careful crossing the road.

Police have closed the southbound lane about 25 meters from the accident, so expect possible delays or re-routing.

Update Oct 26, 8:45 a.m.

The police confirmed that both victims were in their 80s. They have also confirmed that the male victim was airlifted to a hospital in Dallas. The female is in ICU with life-threatening injuries.

I heard that the herd includes you Mr. Big! If "Slugs" can read, write and think they will now avoid North Chadbourne because YOU drive that route at night.

I'm sorry about the old couple being hit, but they are old enough to know better than to cross without a light or crosswalks. And what about the emotional state of the driver....everyone involved was hurt.

If people live 5 or 6 blocks from a traffic light, chances are that they are not going to walk the distance to cross the street. The best thing to do is to make sure you have enough time, and no cars are coming before you cross. I hope the elderly couple and the driver recovers well.
