A Hobbs, New Mexico teenager was killed in a collision on SH-176 about 10 miles west of Andrews Sunday afternoon.
According to the Texas DPS, two teens were driving westbound in their Ford F-150 “at an unsafe speed for the wet road” when the teen driver veered into the oncoming lane of traffic. A 2003 Peterbilt truck was eastbound about the time the teens crossed the centerline. DPS reported that the F-150 struck the Peterbilt “causing front-distributed damage to both vehicles.”
The approximate location of the crash:
Killed was the passenger of the F-150, Jesus Ivan Loya Cereceres, 18, of Hobbs, New Mexico. The F-150’s driver, Mario Rios, 19, also of Hobbs was taken to the hospital in Odessa and listed in “stable” condition.
The driver of the Peterbilt, 35-year-old Pedro Monteverde was not injured.
Neither occupant of the F-150 was wearing a seatbelt, DPS reported. The crash happened Sunday at 3:11 p.m. when the weather was raining and the roadway surfaces wet. DPS reported that the speed limit along that stretch of highway is 75 mph.
