Carlsbad Man Dies in Head-On Collision Near Garden City

 

Early this morning, a Carlsbad man lost his life in a head-on collision near Garden City.

According to the Texas DPS, Jack Michael Riley, 40, of Carlsbad was traveling north on SH 137 approximately 14 miles west of Garden City when he crossed over the centerline into the opposing lane of traffic in a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 pickup.

The approximate location of the crash:

Driving southbound was Agustin R. Velazquez, 57, of Midland in a 2010 Ford F-750. The front left of Riley’s GMC hit the rear right of Velazquez’s truck.

DPS reported that the roadway was dry and skies clear. The crash happened at 7:20 a.m. this morning.

DPS also reported that Riley wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Velazquez was transported to Midland Memorial Medical Center with minor injuries.
