One Killed in Collision with Semi on U.S. 277

 

An Arlington man was killed in a fiery crash 10 miles south of Abilene Tuesday night.

According to the Texas DPS, Russell Dean Abbott, 24, of Arlington was northbound on U.S. 277 just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night. While driving his 2006 Chevy pickup, he drifted into the southbound lane and collided with a 2015 Volvo Truck Tractor towing 2003 Strick Trailer.

Both vehicles ran off the east side of the roadway and caught fire.

The driver of the semi, Robert James Perry, 60, of Abilene was injured.

DPS reports that the weather was clear to partly cloudy and the roadways were dry. The time of the 9-1-1 call was 8:55 p.m. on Sept. 16.
