DPS: Kia Slams into Sand Truck, Trucker at Fault

A sand truck failed to yield the right-of-way causing a Kia Sorento to collide with its semi-trailer. A four-year-old girl sustained minor injuries, DPS said.

The sand truck was westbound on the Old Ballinger Hwy. At the intersection of U.S. 277, the truck stopped at the stop sign, and continued across the intersection.

Meanwhile, the Kia Sorento was southbound on U.S. 277 and did not have enough roadway or time to stop before colliding with the right side of the sand truck’s semi-trailer.

The four-year-old was cut by glass, DPS said, but treated at the scene.

DPS said that the truck driver failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign. The driver will be drug tested, as is automatic for truckers after being involved in a crash.

There were three occupants in the Kia and one occupant in the truck. The Kia was towed by Home Motors to the wrecking yard. The crash happened just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 11.
