School Bus Hits Power Pole's Guy-Wire Near ASU

A coach school bus from Sterling City hit a guy-wire supporting a power pole, closing a side street near Angelo State University this afternoon.

According to the San Angelo police, the bus driver was northbound on S. Johnson St. and attempted to make a right turn onto Vanderventer.

On Vanderventer, police said the driver said, there was a car facing west, the opposite direction, and fairly close to the centerline of the roadway. The bus driver didn’t think she could complete the turn with the car in the way, so she backed up. Not seeing the guy-wire, driver of the bus hit it, causing damage to the bus itself as well as the power pole.

AEP is fixing the problem and working with the driver to move the bus off the guy-wire. The bus was empty when the incident happened. No power outage was reported.

Police said there were no citations issued.
