W Harris in San Angelo Closed Due to Fuel Spill

An 18-wheeler is leaking diesel onto W. Harris this morning following a minor crash that happened just before 7 a.m. this morning. All East and West bound lanes on W. Harris St. are closed to all traffic. This is near the Schlotzsky's restaurant downtown.

The trucker told police that he made a left turn from the second from the left to facilitate a wide turn and miss a tree.

As the truck was making the wide turn, a Ford pickup was also northbound in the inside lane when the semi made the turn in front of him. The pickup collided into the fuel tank of the semi.

About 30-40 gallons have already leaked out of the 100-gallon diesel tank.

The San Angelo Fire Department found a way to pump the remaining fuel out of the broken fuel tank just before 8 a.m. when a fuel pumper truck arrived from Schneider Distributing.

The incident started at 6:45 a.m. and police estimate that the intersection will be closed until 8:30 a.m. at least.

The driver of the semi was cited for making an unsafe turn, police said. No one was hurt in the crash.
