Two Crashes Block Traffic at 19th and Armstrong

A black Dodge Avenger and a silver Nissan Versa are occupying the intersection of 19th and Armstrong, where the two vehicles collided shortly after 4:10 this afternoon. A secondary carash, likely the result of rubbernecking, has occurred in front of the Stripes parking lot nearby.

Emergency personnel are advising motorists to avoid the intersection, which has become clogged due to traffic diversion and disabled vehicles.

The Avenger and Versa appear to have been the primary crash, and the front of the Versa sustained heavy damage while the passenger side of the Avenger appears to be the point of impact. Injuries to the parties of those vehicles are unknown.

At the Stripes, a black Tundra has been rear-ended by a Ram 1500, and the passenger of the Tundra has been loaded into an ambulance. The severity of those injuries is currently not known.

North/south traffic on Armstrong is open and eastbound traffic on 19th is open. Westbound traffic on 19th St. is being diverted before the intersection.

Update 5:07 p.m.

Investigating officer Loudermilk explained that the crash between the Avenger and Versa occurred when the Avenger, who was trying to make a left turn from Armstrong to 19th falied to yield right of way and pulled in front of the Versa, who was also northbound on Armstrong.

Both drivers had a green light and both were minors. The driver of the Avenger was cited for failure to yield right of way.

Investigating officer Brian Bylsma explained that the crash at Stripes occurred when the Tundra stopped in the left lane and the Dodge Ram crashed into the rear of it. The driver of the Tundra said they were waiting to turn, while the driver of the Ram didn't see any signal indicating a turn and crashed into the rear.

A passenger in the Tundra went to the hospital complaining of neck pain. The driver of the Ram was cited for failure to control speed.
