Three Killed in Reagan County Car Crash

 

Three men were killed and two men were injured in a major car crash in Reagan County early Friday morning, that involved a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and a 2003 Dodge Neon.

According to a report released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m., when 24-year-old Brenden David Barrett, the driver of the Silverado, failed to stay in a single lane and crashed into the Neon.

The Silverado has been traveling west on FM 1357 and the Neon was traveling south on 1357, negotiating a turn to the east when Barrett veered into another lane and hit the Neon. The 48-year-old driver, Saul Duarte Lechuga, of Chihuahua, Mexico, and two of his three passengers, 41-year-old Estaben Garcia-Valdez of Tucson, Az., and 35-year-old Andres Blanco-Manriquez of Grand Prairie, were killed as a result of the crash.

Barrett, the driver of the Silverado that caused the crash, was injured and was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. Barrett is from Leander.

A third passenger of the Neon, 36-year-old Jose Oscar Blanco-Manriquez, of Grand Prairie, was transported to the Big Spring State Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

Justice of the Peace Patty Creech declared the three men deceased at the scene. The crash was investigated by highway patrol troopers out of Ozona.

The speed limit on FM 1357 is 75 mph and at the time of the crash, the road was wet.

Next of kin have been notified.
