Lubbock Man Dies in Fatal Crash Near Rankin

 

A Lubbock man was killed near Rankin when he crashed the 1998 Ford pickup that he was driving into the back of a 2012 Mack Truck pulling a semi-trailer, DPS said.

The crash happened yesterday at 7:15 p.m.

According to the DPS report, the Mack Truck was stopped in a southbound lane attempting to make a left hand turn to the east onto a private drive from SH 349, about 15 miles north of Rankin.

Benny James, 60, was also traveling southbound behind and didn’t stop in time. He plowed into the Mack Truck’s trailer. James was pronounced dead at the crash scene by Upton County Justice of the Peace Paige Lopez.

The road conditions were wet, DPS reported.

The crash investigation was conducted by DPS troopers based in Midland.
