Multiple Injuries in Downtown San Angelo Crash

A mid-2000s gold Toyota Tundra and a white Chevrolet four door sedan were involved in a major crash at the intersection of S. Abe St. and W. Beauregard Ave.

At least two ambulances were called to the scene, one had left for Shannon Medical Center at approximately 2.30 p.m.

Two patients, a male and a female are being treated inside a second ambulance still at the scene.

The eastbound lanes of W. Beauregard Ave. and multiple lanes on Abe are blocked as of 2:50 p.m. Friday afternoon.

We will have more to this story once information is released.

Update 3:15 p.m. (Final)

According to Officer Palmer of the San Angelo Police Department Traffic Division investigated the crash. He said there were three witnesses. One of the witnesses said that the Chevrolet sedan ran a red light. The other two swear that each of the vehicles had a green light. Palmer said both drivers said that they entered the intersection on a green light.

Everyone in the crash has some type of injury, but only the passenger of the Chevrolet sedan was transported to Shannon Medical Center with incapacitating injuries.

The occupants of the white Chevy were from Eden; the Tundra driver was from San Angelo.

“Unless something else comes up, I cannot issue a citation,” Palmer said. “What really hurts on this is the three witnesses, with one saying someone ran a red light and the others saying they did not.”

If both drivers are insured their carriers should sort it out. Beyond that, the premiums are likely to increase.

And around here, a green light often means it HAD been green a few minutes ago. As for the witnesses who said both cars had the green light, that is not possible unless the traffic lights malfunctioned. It has happened, though. I sure hope they get it sorted out.
