Two died in a major motor vehicle crash two miles west of Barnhart at 6:30 a.m. this morning. The crash was on U.S. 67 where a white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was eastbound. At the same time, a white 2015 Chevrolet pickup was westbound. In this section of U.S. 67, there is a center turn lane that separates the westbound and eastbound lanes.

The older Chevy pickup traveled over a patch of ice that caused the truck to spin out of control counterclockwise across the center turning lane and into the westbound lane.
The newer Chevy pickup struck the spinning Chevy on the passenger side.
The force of the impact killed the driver and the passenger of the spinning pickup.
The driver and sole occupant of the newer Chevy pickup sustained minor injuries and had family or friends transport him to Shannon Medical Center.
The deceased driver was Martin Vivian Flores, 51, of Edinburg. His passenger was Simon Hernandez Escobedo, Jr., 33, of Alamo.
The driver of the newer Chevy with minor injuries was Donald Keith Arp, 24, of San Angelo.
The conditions were overcast, and the roadways were icy. Trooper Robert Aldrete, Highway Patrol, San Angelo was the investigator.
