Police said a Camaro pulled out in front of a Honda Accord at the Stripes at the 900 block of Glenna Street and the Houston Harte Expressway Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. causing a crash. Traffic on Glenna was backed up at least 0.5 miles while police and firefighters worked the scene.
Investigating officer Brian Bylsma said that a white Honda Accord was southbound on Glenna Street in the inside lane, headed towards the Houston Harte. Meanwhile, a Chevrolet Camaro was attempting to turn left onto Glenna from the Stripes Convenience Store at the corner of Glenna and the frontage road.
The driver of another vehicle in the outside lane made a courtesy stop to allow the Camaro onto the roadway. However, the Camaro did not see the approaching Accord in the inside lane.
The Honda struck the Camaro.
Police said that there were two occupants of each vehicle. All of them refused medical treatment. However, the driver of the Accord was shaken up by the deployment of the airbags.
Honda Accords are designed by a Japanese auto manufacturer. However, Accords have been assembled in the U.S. since 1982, according to Honda. "The name 'Accord' bore Honda's desire for accord and harmony between people, society and the automobile", according to a 1997 Honda press release.
The driver of the Camaro was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way while pulling out of a private drive.
