Deputies from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office arrested a man for driving while intoxicated and evading arrest Tuesday afternoon, after he was involved in two crashes, a vheicle pursuit and a foot pursuit.
John Michael Gizzi began the run at circa 2:22 p.m. at FM 2105 and US 87, when he crashed into a vehicle and fled the scene in his own. He then proceeded into town and crashed out at a property at Armstrong and 44th, where he is believed to have struck a fixture. The assessment of the damage and what exactly he hit has not yet been released.
Police units, TxDPS troopers and TGCSO deputies pursued the man in a vehicle chase, which terminated on E. Red Creek Road. Gizzi then abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, running through an adjacent cotton field.
Law enforcement officers quickly located Gizzi, and he was taken into custody by the sheriffs' deputies, who transported and booked him into the county jail. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and evading arrest.
No injuries were reported in either crash or during the vehicle or foot pursuits.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is handling the investigation of the hit and run, and the SAPD is investigating the crash at 44th and Armstrong.
