A major motor vehicle crash happened just before 5 p.m. on Bell Street on the Concho River bridge. Two ambulances have loaded at least three victims on stretchers. One of the victims was an infant in a car seat. The crash involved three cars. The four-lane Bell Street bridge over the Concho River was down to only two lanes while the crash scene is being cleared.
Update 5:45 p.m.
Three Hyundai Elantras were travelling north on Bell Street, according to San Angelo police. The Black Elantra in the front came to a stop due to debris in the middle of the road on the bridge. The second, maroon Elantra was able to stop behind the black car. But the gray Elantra, the third in line travelling the same way, did not see the two cars stopped on the bridge and ran into the maroon Elantra. The impact pushed the maroon Elantra into the black one.
All of the injuries were occupants of the black Elantra. According to police, two adult females and an infant were transported to Shannon. At the scene, the adults were loaded into the ambulance on stretchers. Police said that the infant was in a car seat and appeared to be “alright.”
Police said they issued a citation to the driver of the gray Hyundai for failure to control speed.
Officially, those taken to the hospital had “unknown injuries”.
One fire truck, two ambulances, and four police cruisers tended to the scene. Traffic was delayed for approximately 35 minutes.
