San Angelo Police Investigate Early Morning Motorcycle Fatality

A 38-year-old man died this morning in a motorcycle crash that occurred just after 3 a.m. in the 4400 block of W. Loop 306, the San Angelo Police Department reports.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at 3:17 a.m., and upon arriving, located a single motorcycle rider, Jack Lee Motes, who had crashed into the guardrail barrier and cable separator. He was pronounced deceased on the scene by Justice of the Peace Fred Buck. Next of kin have been notified.

Witnesses to the crash indicate that Motes was traveling westbound on Loop 306, when he drifted off to the left of the roadway, striking the guardrail before bouncing into the cable separator barrier, police said. Motes was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and police state that speed is believed to have been a contributing factor.   

Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted in this investigation as well as the Tom Green County Crisis Intervention Unit. Follow-up investigation is underway at this time.  Any additional information may be released at a later time.
